The inaugural Haramacy program was held in London in the Spring of 2019. Haramacy brought together Middle Eastern and South Asian artists from marginalised communities with the aim of creating a framework for them to collaborate and create.
Acting as a catalyst for cross-cultural engagement, Haramacy created a safe space for artists to explore intersectional social systems (race, gender, class and ethnicity) that exist within their communities as well as their peers.
Haramacy comprised of a five-day multi-arts program hosted at The Albany in Deptford, South East London as part of their ‘Rebels Season.’ Select UK-based took part in a four-day collaborative residency to explore the complexities of diasporic experience. On the final day, artists presented their works through a one-day festival of storytelling, talks, music and audio-visual performance in correlation with The Albany season’s theme which celebrates outsider narratives.
